Happy Hump Day! Actually, I apologize for saying that. It's a pet peeve when I see that on Wednesday posts yet here I am...typing it. Anyway, it's halfway through the week but for us, it's FRIDAY! We head to Napa tomorrow morning and are so excited! It's a weekend trip with another friend of ours who has been a few times so she's showing us the ropes. I've been once before but it was a quick day trip from SF so I didn't get to explore (aka, drink wine) as long as I wanted to. Stay tuned, we'll have posts all weekend long!
So about mascara...

We've had a few people ask if we recommend a certain brand or what our favorites were. I wanted to make a blog post out of this instead of just IG stories with links because this is a beauty product Erica and I actually couldn't be more opposites on. One of her favorites was one I didn't really care for, and one of my favorites she isn't a fan of. Just goes to show we all have our own taste and likes/dislikes, so you've just got to trial and error what works best for you. With that being said, keep in mind Sephora and Ulta take back products even if they've been opened and used, so don't be afraid to try new ones out. That's the only way you'll learn what works best for you!
Here are my top mascaras picks:
1. Better than Sex by Too Faced ($25.00)
I love the wand on this one. It's thick enough so it coats my entire lash and doesn't clump into weird spider looking eyelashes. Erica isn't a fan of this one saying it flakes, but I haven't noticed it when I use it.
2. Diorshow by Dior ($29.50)
This is one of my longest running mascaras I've consistently purchased. Same as the above, I love the thicker wand. It coats my lashes from root to tip and lasts all day while still being easy to wash off at night.
3. The Colossal Big Shot by Maybelline ($8.99)
You can't beat the price on this drugstore purchase, and it holds up right along next to the higher end products. Also washes off well.
What I've come to find out is I love the thicker wands that coat and separate the lashes making them look fuller, not just longer. One of the things that makes me cringe when trying new mascara is the more slender wands that coat too much of your lash and makes them clump together into weird, wet looking sections instead of fuller individual lashes.
Erica's Top Picks:
1. Mile High Club by WanderBeauty ($26.00)
This is an Allure 'Best of' winner this year, so you know it's good. It's like wearing falsies without the trouble.
2. BADgal BANG! by Benefit ($13.00)

This is one of Erica's go-to's at all times, but is one that just does not work well with my lashes. She loves the volume and dramatic look it gives. And you can't beat that price.
3. Lights, Camera, Lashes by Tarte ($23.00)
Another good price point and Tarte is almost always having some sort of special going on if you purchase directly through their site. This is a great, everyday look and a simple mascara that gets the job done and lasts through the whole work day.
A few (very important) things to make note of that neither one of us go without:
1. Lash Primer - It took me a second to get on this bandwagon, but it has made a huge difference and I'm so glad I did! A primer preps your lashes for a longer lasting hold, but it also extends and lengthens them too. Find one that doesn't harden your lashes making it difficult to put on mascara after, but rather just coats the lashes acting as a protector. It really does make a difference!
2. Lash Enhancement Serum - Who doesn't want longer eyelashes? I do! But who is allergic to eyelash extensions? Also me! Cue lash serums. I've truly seen a difference in the length of my lashes just by using this serum before bed each night. It's magic in a bottle!
Let us know in the comments if you've tried any of the ones mentioned or if you have a favorite of your own. We're always interested in trying new products! Thanks for reading!
I’m very much team Erica on this! I am a natural blonde with blonde eyelashes so mascara is a must have! I was a Tarte girl until I got a sample of Thrive Causmetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara from Ipsy. When paired with my Lancôme Cils Booster XL, I constantly get asked who does my lash extensions...bonus, no flaking, smudging or smearing. I buy mine either from Ipsy or straight from Thrive’s website.
